

Rogoznica lies in the southernmost part of the Sibenik-Knin County, in a deep bay sheltered from wind, about 30km far from Sibenik. Today's peninsula comprises former mainland part called Kopaca and the islet of Kopara Rogoznica connected by a causeway in the present village of Rogoznica. The part of Rogoznica that lies on the mainland was populated already in 1390. In 1518 the inhabitants fled in front of the Turkish army to safety of the nearby islet. The oldest historical monument is the church of St.John's from Trogir, built in 1324 on the Ploce promontory. In the Loznice bay, in the old village, a church of St.Nicholas was built. The parish church built in 1615 was restored and completed in the 19th ct.
In the past the inhabitants of Rogoznica dealt mainly with fishing and agriculture and they still don't forget the traditional jobs in spite of today's touristic orientation. This beautiful fishing village has a naturally protected harbour and the sea is very deep which enables all kinds of yachts to find safe berth there. Thick pine forest, long coastal path, pretty little beaches, islets and bays and the Dragon's eye lake amid lime stone rocks, attract many tourists besides the yachtsmen. Fresh fish is every day available in the restaurants with the sea food and among numerous local gastronomic specialities, the best is fish soup prepared à la Rogoznica. Private accomodation is offered in comfortable family houses. In 1966 a modern artificial island-marina was built Rogoznica which gives additional appeal to this place.
Rogoznica is frequently visited by boaters because of Frapa marina, considered to be one of the most beautiful and safest in this part of the Adriatic. Rogoznica's many pebble beaches and several rocky beaches are surrounded by pine trees. Rogoznica is traditionally a fishing settlement and visitors can buy recently caught fish. Local festivals, taking place in August - Ribarska noc (Fisherman's Night) and Noc Rogoznice (Rogoznica Night) - attract many visitors including those from Split and Sibenik. Due to its indented coastline and other sports facilities, Rogoznica is perfect for water sports as well as other activities. Secluded beaches await you in numerous inlets in the vicinity of Rogoznica.
